5 TIPS TO EASILY IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP

Ah sleep. Sweet sleep.

We all know the wonderful feeling that comes from a great night’s sleep. Feeling refreshed and rejuvenated helps us take on the day with enthusiasm and joy!

A good night’s sleep is essential for our wellbeing and quality of life. Whether it’s falling off to sleep, staying asleep, getting the right amount of sleep or the quality of sleep – it’s all important. Sleep is just as vital as a balanced diet and regular exercise.

Sleep happens easily and effortlessly for some. For others, there are things that can be done to help.

Here are 5 tips to easily improve your sleep.

1. SUPPORT YOUR CIRCADIAN RHYTHM

The circadian rhythm is your natural body clock. It acts as a signal for your body throughout the day, especially when it’s time to sleep. When it’s in tune, you’ll feel more energised during the day and ready for sleep at bedtime.

To support your natural circadian rhythm, ensure that you get enough natural sunlight or bright light during the day. A few hours each day is ample. Try working by a window if you’re too busy to head outside.

Another way to help your circadian rhythm is to avoid or reduce your exposure to blue light before bedtime. Blue light is emitted from phones, TVs, and computers. It disrupts our body’s natural melatonin production, that’s the hormone that makes you sleep. Exposure at night-time can be detrimental to your quality of sleep and make it harder to fall asleep. Try the following: stop using screens 1-2 hours prior to bed, use an app or filter to reduce blue light or try blue light blocking glasses.

2. ADOPT GOOD DAYTIME HABITS

What we do during the day and right before bed impacts our sleep. Adopting the following habits will help you fall asleep and improve your quality of sleep.

  • Don’t consume caffeine late in the day
  • Avoid alcohol right before bed or altogether
  • Don’t eat late in the evening
  • Exercise regularly, but not right before bed
  • Reduce long daytime naps - short power naps are best

3. SLEEP IN QUALITY BAMBOO SHEETS

Natural organic bamboo sheets can help you relax and feel comfortable in bed. Ensure that your bedsheets are soft, fresh and allow for your skin to breath – it makes all the difference! Our hypoallergenic sheets are perfect even for the most sensitive of skin. They keep you cool in summer and warm in winter, all of which aids in a great night’s sleep.

4. MAKE YOUR BEDROOM CONDUCIVE FOR SLEEP

Along with soft and luxurious bamboo bedding, it’s also important to think about whether your bedroom environment encourages sleep. Can you minimize external light and noise? Can you rearrange the furniture to make the space more relaxing, calm, and enjoyable? Ensure that your bedroom is kept clean and with enough fresh air circulating to make it more conducive for a great night’s sleep.

5. CREATE A NIGHT-TIME ROUTINE

Just like a little baby can benefit from cues to assist with sleep, us grown-ups can too! Have a bath or shower, drink a sleepy-time tea, burn some calming essential oils, turn down the sheets, have a gentle stretch, slow down your thoughts through meditation or reading and aim to have a consistent bedtime and rise time. All these things will help to indicate to your body and mind that it’s almost time for sleep.
